What do we understand by disaster?

We draw on the definition of disasters by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure with one adaptation. We do not target Epidemics in our challenge. Our understanding is that disaster can be: 

  • Drought 
  • Earthquake 
  • Extreme temperature 
  • Flood 
  • Landslide 
  • Storm 
  • Wildfire 

Not all these disasters are necessarily impacted by climate change.

We consider solutions as well if they target disaster risk reduction in areas not linked to climate change
